Component 1

Complete Street Projects

In an effort to upgrade Ulaanbaatar’s transport infrastructure, the project will pursue two measures: rehabilitation and repair on select existing streets, and new construction aimed at improving streets and roads along select project corridors. Through these efforts, the project will renovate and reorganise streets, highways, and sidewalks, improve existing cross-sections on select streets, channelize intersections to improve traffic management, and install additional traffic management equipment.

Construction of New Roads

In order to expand Ulaanbaatar’s road network, the project aims to construct new streets and roads - especially along underserviced Ger Districts. The construction of new roads will improve the efficiency of motorised and non-motorised vehicle traffic along street carriageways, ensuring traffic safety and climate resilience, increasing accessibility and opportunities for all types of road users, expanding the coverage of the road network, and improving the transport accessibility for Ger District residents. Thus, the project will ultimately improve traffic flow on the densest parts of the Ulaanbaatar road network.

Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Works

Rehabilitation of existing roads will not only reconfigure existing carriageways, but also pedestrian and bicycle paths. Rehabilitation works aim to improve the efficiency of motor and non-motorized vehicle traffic along the existing carriageway, ensure road safety, improve climate resilience, and increase accessibility for all types of road users.
