Two-Day Seminar on “Ulaanbaatar City Public Transport Strategy, High-Capacity Public Transport Systems, and Transit-Oriented Development” Successfully Held




Within the framework of the “Ulaanbaatar Sustainable Urban Transport” Project, a two-day seminar titled “Ulaanbaatar City Public Transport Strategy, High-Capacity Public Transport Systems, and Transit-Oriented Development” was successfully organized on June 24 and 27, 2025 as part of the consulting service for preparation the public transport strategy for Ulaanbaatar.
The objective of the seminar is to present the importance of developing a public transport strategy and strategic planning to support the sustainable development of Ulaanbaatar, while also sharing global best practices and emerging trends in the public transport sector.
On the first day, the following topics were presented:
- Why Do Cities Need a Public Transport Strategy? Chinese Case Studies in Strategic Urban Mobility Planning
- Urban and Public Transportation Planning in Ulaanbaatar: Integrated Approach to Reduce Congestion and Infrastructure Planning
- Public Transport Strategy and Strategic Plan for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
On the second day, the following key topics were addressed:
- Integrating Land Use and Rail Transit: Japanese Case Studies in Transit-Oriented Development and Possible Lessons for Ulaanbaatar
- Leveraging ITS for Smarter, Safer, and More Efficient Public Transport Systems
- Evaluating the Impact of Transit-Oriented Development in China: Policies, Implementation, and Outcomes
- Institutional Structure and Regulatory Capacity Required for Effective Public Transport System in Ulaanbaatar
Presentations were delivered by the lead consultant and key specialists of the project’s consultant team. Approximately 40 representatives from various organizations attended the seminar, including the Governor’s Office of the Capital city, Public Transport Policy Department, Urban Development and Standardization Agency, Road Development Agency, Traffic Control Center, Project Management Office, and the Ulaanbaatar City Development Corporation.
